Food Waste Heroes Nominated for Innovator of the Year

September 2023

The Food & Wine Restaurant of the Year Awards, in association with Rémy Martin, are the pinnacle of recognition for excellence in Irish food, drink, and hospitality. They are considered the most prestigious and authoritative culinary awards in the Irish calendar, celebrating the very best in our industry.

Chef Conor Spacey of FoodSpace and Dónal and Virginia O’Gara of My Goodness and Cork Urban Soil Project have been nominated for the INNOVATOR OF THE YEAR award in partnership with Tomkins at The Food & Wine Restaurant of the Year Awards 2023.

This nomination highlights Chef Conor’s incredible passion for and commitment to building a better food system, one without waste. He does incredible work with The Chef’s Manifesto and recently published Wasted, a book packed with recipes to use every part of each ingredient.

Virginia and Dónal run My Goodness, working closely with local food producers in Cork making delicious ‘food to make you feel good’. They also run Cork Urban Soil Project (C.U.S.P.) from their production kitchen in the city, where they have breathed life back into a biodigestor that converts urban food scraps into compost. They then use this soil enhancer in local food growing and tree-planting initiatives.

We are delighted to see these inspiring food waste heroes get the recognition they deserve. For the full list of nominees, check out: https://www.businesspost.ie/food-and-wine/shortlists-revealed-for-2023-restaurant-of-the-year-awards/
