EU wastes more food than it imports in a year

About 153m tonnes of food in the EU is wasted every year. This figure is double previous estimates, 15m tonnes more than what is shipped in yearly, according to a new study. The amount of what is wasted in the EU alone is roughly half of what the Ukraine exports. Global food prices last month were 8% higher than a year ago, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), and by simply curbing on-farm waste they could puncture food price inflation.
