EU wastes more food than it imports in a year
About 153m tonnes of food in the EU is wasted every year, this is double previous estimates. This is 15m tonnes more than what shipped in yearly, according to study’s estimates. The amount of what wasted in the EU alone is roughly half of the Ukraine’s what exports. Global food prices last month were 8% higher than a year ago, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), and by simply curbing on-farm waste they could puncture food price inflation.
